Charles Manson Hospitalized

Charles Manson, now 82, was taken to the hospital today from prison for undisclosed reasons. There are unconfirmed reports he suffers from some kind of gastro-intestinal issue. The prison says he is alive.

Manson's prison, Corcoran, has previously been found to have inadequate health care. The report is here. According to the spokeswoman for the Receiver for California Correctional Health Care Services:

The California State Prison, Corcoran, has medical facilities to treat inmates requiring urgent or emergency care as well as in-patient hospital stays.

“In general, inmates are sent to outside hospitals if they need surgical services, emergency care, or diagnostic services of an acute nature,” said Joyce Hayhoe, a spokeswoman for the federal receiver who controls prison medical care. “These services are not provided in state prison facilities.”

California's medical rules for prisons are here.

if the health care there is that bad.

But that is a drastic measure to get out of performing at the inauguration. He would only have had to brush up his swastika carving a little bit.

by a federal judge yesterday, requiring better (and more expensive) health care for Mumia abu Jamal's hepatitis C (which complicates his diabetes). (The photo caption on the linked article is incorrect. Mumia is serving a life sentence; his death sentence was overturned about five years ago, and he is not presently "on death row.")

    Let him out (none / 0) (#3)

At 82 I doubt he's a danger to anyone and he's been punished more than enough. Time to let him out

His crimes were too heinous. Let him stay in prison.

I think even in 1969, I can imagine what he's like now.

We're talking about a guy who was taught how to play the guitar in prison by Alvin Karpis.

Plus, he still has a handful of screwball fans who hang on his every utterance and would probably flock to him even now if he was out.

And then we have Alex Jones worried that if Manson was out, he might get offered a talk radio slot and take away his audience.

of people to let out before him, starting with Leslie Van Houten who was denied parole again last year.
