Trump's Dark and Stormy Speech

Bump and Update: Call the plagiarism cops -- I think Dick Wolf wrote Donald Trump's speech. Funniest lines so far: "How great are the police? How great is Cleveland?" and "I am your law and order candidate."

The AP fact-checks Trump's speech.

He's dreaming if he thinks Bernie Sanders' supporters will vote for him in droves. There aren't that many angry, marginalized, bigoted police-lovers among those eligible to vote.

Ivanka looked great and gave a true Daddy's girl speech. Since it was all about Trump, there's no reason to think it was a copy cat speech. Melania looked miserable as she spoke. Young Baron couldn't stop fidgeting. Ivanka didn't endorse a single one of his political views. (She said she's an Independent.) She made a lot of claims about Trump's business prowess and his laudable treatment of mothers in the workplace. (That sounds more like her issue than his)[More...]

Alternative TV viewing tonight: El Principe on Unimas: the crooked Christian cops in Spain dumped the body of the teenage brother of the local Muslim drug lord in the sea. They're about to be exposed by the new young, idealistic police chief who believes in fairness and falls in love with the drug lord's sister.

Original Post

Someone broke the embargo and now all the media is publishing the prepared remarks to Donald Trump's speech tonight in Cleveland.

Hunker down, and get ready for what promises to be a dark and stormy night. (Origin of that phrase is here.)

Laugh out loud funny: "I have made billions of dollars in business making deals – now I’m going to make our country rich again."

and "I have loved my life in business. But now, my sole and exclusive mission is to go to work for our country – to go to work for all of you."

Knock yourself out, Mr. Trump, you will still land with a thud in November. We all know this is a game to you, and by November, everyone but your family will be tired of playing.

Do you even know who David Duke is, and what he stands for? Because if you did and are at all a rational human being, then the very idea that this notorious white supremacist and fascist would be cheering on Trump like he's the Second Coming ought to rightly scare the bejesus out of you -- unless, of course, you share Duke's agenda.

If you make an attempt to keep up with current events, you'll be fine. As for the Klansman David Duke has been in the public eye for awhile and is a notorious white supremacist. 25 years ago, when he won the GOP nomination for Louisiana governor, then-President George H.W. Bush denounced him and urged his fellow Republicans to vote for the Democrat, Edwin Edwards, who was a seriously flawed candidate himself, but not an avowed racist. That's how bad David Duke is. So, if he's singing Trump's praises, you best be wary of Trump.

It's a blog.  You think Donald knows what he's talking about any more than you?   Or I do?  I'm currently laying on the couch with my feet up smoking a joint and watching BLOODLINE and net watching at the same time.  Our opinions are free.  And worth every penny.

This place can be cliquish.   The comment sections of most blogs can.   I think it's less so than it used to be.  But I really hate cliquish.  So fu@k um.   Us.  Whatever.

I admit I thought for a while you were Robot Porter in disguise.  But maybe you are not.   Don't worry about understanding that.  It's an inside joke that would take to long to explaine.

I don't use that word very often ... wanting to be prepared for things, I fortify my sensibilities against being stunned.  Now ... I'm in a kind of zone, after sort-of wailing about the hideous picture of some planet that Trump has been portraying.  I've had two glasses of wine (maybe I should have had something else) and 3 scoops of ice-cream with dark chocolate sauce.  It doesn't help.  What the he$$ is this character Trump saying.  Here, I'm almost yearning for Reagan's Morning in America ... anything with hope or inspiration or any kind of future other than the decaying dirt he describes.

Husband has secluded himself in another room to gape & watch.  Our little doggy wonders what is going on.

Does he smile ... only ugly, only surly anger (sometimes punctuated by loud anger.)

I don't know what else to say.  Having watched almost every convention since the '60s, I've never endured such ugliness.  Since this is Colorado, maybe I ate something with some unknown edibles that have set off a bad reaction.

Yes, it is visceral.  His visceral ugly has finally gotten to me.  Law & Order ... Law & order ... Law & Order --- he makes Dick Nixon sound like a pansy.  Damn Fascist!

Tomorrow will be a better day.  First thing in the morning, with the rising sun, my dog & I will take a long walk--unafraid--and say hi to neighbors, smile and see smiles, and wake to life again.

the nominee's speech ... yet, but reading the reviews I think I'll pass. But I watched Ivanka Trump's*. Really nice and positive -- after all he's her dad -- but when she introduced him as "The next etc ..." her eyes betrayed her -- says the amateur psychologist :) -- and her whole speech sounded more like a Democrat talking about and hoping for a Hillary Clinton-presidency.

But then after the "not being registered" to vote in N.Y., and naming her son so his initials spell JFK, I'm convinced she more than just leans Democratic.

    * As BTD points out about Ivanka Trump's speech, it's positive, devoid of calls for "lock her up", but it needed to have been sorrounded by more positivity of that kind, to really make it "fit".

Declaring we have "open borders" when we are deporting record numbers and net migration has been flat or decreasing for the better part of a decade; furthermore that these open borders are part of a conspiracy of elites to destroy our vay of life from within by letting in hundreds of thousands rampaging Mexicans (i.e. rapists and murderers) and terrorists. This Administration counts those turned around at the border....As Deported.

Nearly 1 million immigrants have been ordered deported but still roam free in the U.S., including nearly 180,000 who have been convicted of crimes here, the Homeland Security Department said in information released Friday by the Senate immigration subcommittee.
The release came the same day that two top lawmakers, the chairman of the House and Senate judiciary committees, demanded answers on how a man who'd been deported twice before snuck back into the U.S. and, according to a criminal complaint, then kidnapped and raped his estranged girlfriend
    .

All told, there are 918,369 immigrants living in the U.S. who have been ordered deported. Some of them are here under special court rulings or administration decisions that prevent them from being sent back to specific countries, while others just aren't deemed serious enough criminals by the Obama administration to worry about.
Of the total, 179,027 have criminal convictions.

The article clearly states it was information gathered in a Senate subcommittee hearing, from Homeland Security statistics.

Criminal Releases. When ICE declines to action against criminal aliens, that means they are released back into
American communities. This is not a small problem. In 2013, ICE released 36,007 convicted criminal aliens
    from its custody.4
Of these, 193 had homicide convictions, 426 had sexual assault convictions, and 303 had
kidnapping convictions. As of September, 2014, already 5,700 of them (16 percent) had been arrested again for
subsequent offenses, and 1,000 had been again convicted. ICE had taken only 1,600 back into custody.
In 2014, ICE released another 30,558 convicted criminal aliens. Of these, 175 had homicide convictions, 373 had sexual assault convictions, and 186 had kidnapping convictions. The number arrested for subsequent crimes has not been disclosed.
Many Criminal Aliens Ordered Removed But Are Still Here. As of October 4, 2015 there were 179,037 convicted criminal aliens on ICE's docket who had received final orders of removal, but who had not departed.
Of these 172,473 were at large in the United States after release by ICE.
3 Year-end ICE Weekly Departures and Detention Reports for 2013-2015. 4 Jessica M. Vaughan, "ICE Document Details 36,007 Criminal Alien Releases in 2013," Center for Immigration Studies:

In addition, there were 194,791 convicted criminals awaiting the outcome of deportation proceedings. Of these, 184,948 were at large in the United States, released by ICE.5

    Announcment today appearance tomorrow

Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton is expected to announce her choice for running mate via email Friday afternoon and to appear with her new pick on Saturday in Miami. Sen. Elizabeth Warren said Thursday night that it's "probably not" going to be her and sources close to Clinton say she'll likely choose Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia for his popularity in the battleground state, The New York Times reports. Still, New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker made a final pitch for the role Thursday in Cleveland, posting a photo on Twitter featuring the two embraced in a hug. The Washington Post also reported that Booker, Kaine, and Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack were the final three competing for the spot.

should wait on the veep announcement for a day. Let the aftermath of the Republican Convention percolate--the botched veep announcement, plagiarism and false academic credentials of Mrs. Trump; the spasms of nostalgia as cure-all's, last century production, and criminalizing political differences, chanting for jail and, in the case of a Trump advisor, execution. And, of course, the steady drum beat of racism, misogyny, and nativism, and the rise of the cult of Trump.

Then there was the illustration of Trump's con job as a great negotiator. Trump did not even get an endorsement out of Cruz, and got a whole lot worse, while Cruz got prime-time for his own purposes. Trump does not need to have a fascase in his hand, to display his fascist bent.
