More Raids in Brussels

At least 13 police raids took place in Brussels today. 9 were arrested, 5 have already been released.

I've seen four official ISIS videos (I'm not linking to them) of the Belgian attacks released in the last two days. One common theme is there is more to come.

    country. Tensions between the French dialect speaking Wallons and the Flemish speakers have existed since the country was founded in 1830. And guess what, religious differences figured large in the situation.

    During one of my trips to Brussels...'68 or '69... one of the separatist groups set off a bomb outside, if I remember right, outside the US AID office. One person was killed. And the bombers published an apology...no one was supposed to be killed. Weird, eh?

    How times have changed.

    Undoubtedly the lack of a common language has contributed to the problems in Beligum. Assimilation is hard. Even harder when you can't understand each other.

    but here's a clue.

    Angry protesters gathered near the Brussels stock exchange on Sunday. Chanting "Belgie barst" -- or "Break up Belgium," a Flemish slogan used by one of Belgium's nationalist far-right parties -- they brandished flares and threw water bottles at peaceful demonstrators who were holding banners proclaiming unity.

    penalize any parents who have the temerity to speak a language other than English in front of their children?

    There were a couple of other countries in the 20th century that tried to impose monoculture and state-sanctioned religion on their citizenry and it didn't turn out so well.

    And here I thought you conservatives didn't believe in social engineering..

    Belgium's problem is that it was formed with two groups that had members that hated each other. And like Iraq the issue was/is largely religion. The influx of Muslims has just compounded the problem.

    Diversity sounds good until it runs into things like the Flems and the Wallons or the Sunni and Shia. Or, it is used to establish a protected class based on  any number of reasons. Then not so good.

    The US was an experiment of bringing a diverse population together and it melding itself into one.

    Typically each group took one generation to assimilate. This was accomplished by societal pressure...see some comments by the very liberal Teddy Roosevelt. Ballots were printed in English only as were the other government documents.

    Things started to fly apart only after we started printing ballots in various languages along with other government documents.

    In short, we, like Belgium, have created various competing groups. The Flems, the Wallons and the Muslim. The results are plain to see.

    Preaching a lack of diversity as a plus, pffft. I'll tell you what a lack of diversity gets you...inferior alleles and lazy brained community where I guess in the end the alleles get to be fewer and fewer. Keep on keeping on with that mentality jim and maybe we can finally get you out of the gene pool ;)

    Also, please list the made up countries because in Geography I never read that some countries were made-up.  Sometimes your dumbassery makes it hard to follow whatever ridiculous point you are trying to make.

    This is insight. We live in a nation with half a million guns spread around like candy corn. We have a mass shooting every heartbeat. The world is littered with weapons of mass murder, so much so that decent people, everywhere, are meaningless, just piles of steaming mush whenever the mushmakers decide to make them so. The world is a dead place. Dead.
