Target and Others Halts Sales of "Illegal Immigrant" Halloween Costumes

Good for Target, Walgreen's and other stores which have pulled Halloween costumes mocking undocumented residents from their shelves and websites:

Several well-known chain stores have halted sales of an "illegal alien" Halloween costume after complaints from immigrant-rights activists.

The costume includes an orange jumpsuit similar to prison garb, with ILLEGAL ALIEN stamped across the chest, a "green card" and a space alien mask. Activists began complaining Friday when they learned the costume was being sold in stores or on Web sites of retailers including Target, Walgreen's and Amazon. The costume was priced between $27.49 and $39.99.

The costume was made by Forum Novelties Inc., based in Melville, New York. Now that's a company boycott I'd support.

it's just plain stupid. if you're in the u.s. with a green card then you are not an illegal alien or undocumented immigrant.

Get rid of borders and this problem goes away...

would carry such an item...and pretty f*cked up that locking up immigrants has become pop-culture accepted and approved...we're one messed-up tribe sometimes.

joke.  But it sounds like it was a bit too subtle.
Still, I liked the political aspect of it...calling out zenophobic attitudes.  I guess if E.T. landed now, I.C.E. would just throw him in a detention center.

    Isn't that what they did... (none / 0) (#7)

Title 8 of the U.S. Code was enacted, Aliens and Nationality. There even used to be a section, ALIEN VETERANS OF WORLD WAR I. I think it dates at least back to the 1920's. Even now there is a section Inadmissible Aliens.

The term "alien" is defined as "any person not a citizen or national of the United States."

    answers the question.

Put it this way:  can you imagine 'alien reform?'

Aliens.  Immigrants.  Not the same thing.
